Fashion weeks I have known and loved
Just a few days ago I found out I’m going to Fashion Week in Sydney on Wednesday… yes, the day after tomorrow… aggh!! Extremely exciting, because it has been years since I went to a proper fashion week. I went to quite a few when I worked in Tokyo, so here are some shots to show you what goes on at international fashion shows!
(Cape Town Fashion Week)
They can make you feel on top of the world…
No matter how much VIP treatment you get though, it’s important to stay friendly with the locals…
(New Zealand Fashion Week)
All sorts of transport is involved in getting to fashion weeks…
Once you get there though, if you’re a VIP you get a pass and the privilege of hanging out at the bar between shows…

And if you have friends living in the country where the show is held, you can hang out with them and their friends too!
Some of the shows are in amazing venues … like this yacht rotisserie?? yacht hangar?? No idea what the proper name is for a massive yacht storage venue but this is where Zambesi had their show a few years ago.

(Luzerne: Swiss Textile Awards)
Sometimes you’re in a place only long enough to snap the scenery…
…and yourself in the hotel bathroom mirror…
(Moscow: Russian Fashion Week)
…and sometimes there are guest performers like Siobhan Fahey from Bananarama who was the DJ at this particular event…

Some fashion weeks go all out to spoil their guests – at this one I had a chauffeur driven Mercedes Benz AND an interpreter at my disposal, so got a tour of all the sights between shows!!
I’m looking forward to hanging out with Patty Huntington (aka Frockwriter) again. It’s always great to catch up with friends in the fashion business, and I haven’t seen her for ages.
I doubt I’ll get to speak with her for long though, as she blogs/tweets every 5 seconds, in between filing stories for a zillion publications.
Oh… and by the way, sometimes at fashion weeks, you actually go to fashion shows…
*Count how many times I am wearing this same dress in this post… it’s easy to layer, comfy and doesn’t crush, plus always gets compliments, so was a favourite when I was doing the show circuit! I actually had trouble finding pics of me wearing something else!
oh I hope you have a wonderful time in Sydney…E.N.J.O.Y.
