Basic beige
Having crashed back to reality after the frivolities and fancies of Fashion Week, my Self-stitched item today is a basic beige cardigan which I made from a jumper i got for $3 at an op shop in Tokyo. I cut down the front of it, neatened it, chopped off the cuffs and used them to make pockets, put elastic in the sleeve hems as the sleeves were too big and long to be flattering, and voila, a cardigan which cuts off the circulation in my wrists (the elastic is a bit too tight, but a year on, I still haven’t got around to fixing it)! Very handy for work and other events that don’t require a lot of thought. Do you have a standby Self-stitched garment too?
Look at those sleeves! Sweet!I am still new to sewing, but tonight I quick-fixed the hem on my dress WITHOUT TAKING IT OFF. With the sewing machine. I thought that was something to be proud of!That said, I will need to go back and do it properly soon…PS. I got me some clogs, but they're from the 70's! So groovy. I'm still hanging out to see your funkis.x Claire
Love your cardi and scarf combo!! I just bought (I know, I know…should have sewn) 2 sweatshirt/cardis with elastic cuffs. They are so warm, but also leave red marks on my poor arms. Let's see-standby garment would have to be yoga pants. I have them in red, blue, black, brown. Everyone will see them soon.Claire, I love the image of you sewing without taking off the dress…how cute 🙂
Yes! I have a black skirt I wore on Day 1 that's one of my favourite pieces. Cute and comfortable-looking cardigan!
Claire, I'm impressed, that's a feat that requires serious coordination, I don't like to think what might happen if I attempted it… I'm fairly sure there might be some OHS issues there…!!Yes, Mary something must be done about the elastic marks seeing as I still had them on my arms an HOUR after removing the cardigan.. oops.. and looking forward to seeing more of your great work Tasia!
They have op shops in Tokyo? Right, thats it, I'm off to look at Jetstar flights right now …PS Loving your style
Ooohh yes, Japan is CRAZY for vintage, all my best earrings (clip ons!) come from there .. but the actual op shops are not in the centre of town, they're more like little neighbourhood spots for those in the know. Plenty of flea markets though! Agggh now I am dying to go back…
