Fashion Week #2
Day 4 of RAFW dawned bright and sunny, although I was awake well before dawn thanks to my bed companion’s penchant for an early morning manicure.
Yes, Mimi was wide awake and gnawing at her claws only centimetres from my face at about 6am. Not the sort of awakening a fashionista expects, but it did make me lie there giggling for a while.
Arriving at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay (where most of the shows were held) we all got a bit snap-happy… here I am with Lady Melbourne and Cecylia…
Here I am snapping Patty (yes, I did get to catch up with her!) and Lady M…
And here I am being snapped by The Sydney Girl…
You can’t see it in the shot above but TSG was wearing these shocking pink socks…
I’m a pretty slack street snapper but I did love these turquoise-green jeans that Jean from Dossier (??) was wearing with a nonchalant ’70s style…
In between taking shots of each other we did manage to get to some fashion shows. Ellery was at the White Rabbit gallery and ran very, very late thanks to those of us on the free shuttle bus taking a while to get on. But due to our tardiness, I got to sit in the front row. Win! (Seeing as for most of the venue, there was only a front row, it wasn’t that remarkable, but still…)
You’d think that sitting in the front row, as I was, I would have been able to get better shots, but I don’t want to give those of you used to my blurry snaps a heart attack or anything, so chose to continue with my usual standard… (ie, crap that doesn’t do the clothes justice AT ALL).
Can you recognise Kirstie Clements from Vogue Australia in this shot?
I liked the flared line of the outfit on the left…
And shiny things make me happy š
… as do ruffles…
Check out the installation which was on a lower floor of the gallery… illuminated Chinese characters… much like myself really.. ha!
Back at the OPT, we took in the Kooey swimwear show, which I really only mention because I took this cool photo…
The rest of the show looked like this. Famous boxer Anthony Mundine was right opposite me but you can’t see him in this shot (and yes, as I have no idea about sport, I had to ask who he was and why everyone was taking his photo).
I mentioned before that I got to hang out with Patty – basically this meant frantically running backstage with her while she got snaps of the models, like this girl who was in the Stolen Girlfriends Club show (which, ironically, I did not get a seat for, so it’s lucky I at least got this sneak peek).
I’m definitely wanting to try a really bold lip colour – you can’t see it in this shot but the colour was actually a matt kind of blend with a very intense pink base and then some violet over the top. Not the kind of lipstick you’d wear if you were planning on kissing someone. Not that I normally have to worry about that. However, I could definitely have kissed this guy who I met backstage…
His name is Frankie, he’s a Bengal, and starred in the Limedrop show… in the arms of another girl!! Boo hoo…
Spurned as I was, I had to distract myself by taking shots of people at the show. Is it wrong to find the attendees more interesting than the models at the shows? Here you can see Susie Bubble and Phil Oh sitting next to each other.
And I’m not sure who these ladies are but look at the girl in the orange with the turquoise skirt and pink bag! She’s qualified to teach a colour blocking class!
I also never found out who this girl with the blonde crop is but she was super cute. She’s next to Oh Jamie (who I heard some girls behind me talking about because he’s about 7 feet tall and was wearing a skirt and a shaggy Yeti-style jacket and platform boots at the time. He’s a blogger. He can do that.)
My surprise favourites of the day were the group shows. I loved Sally Koeswanto’s ombre eveningwear…
…and the cord detail on this red carpet dress…
The colour in Billi Keato’s collection was stunning…
Love the tomato red and emeraldy-turquoise on black…
There was a fair bit of emeraldy turquoise at the shows – channelling Gucci, perhaps, but there’s nothing wrong with that when it’s such an amazing colour, and I fully intend to wear it whenever possible.
Another look I loved at RAFW was sported by Cheryl from Business Chic who kindly took some of the photos of me at the start of this post and got sore legs from all the street snapping she did this week.
This is the look I’m talking about – it’s a crappy photo but I think you can see she has gathered a large jumper by pinning a brooch through several folds…
Simple, but genius…
Cheryl came back to stay with us at Chateau de Lou’s Auntie. Here is the cat she was allotted with. His name’s Sammy and unlike Mimi, he isn’t keen on manicures. Probably because if he tried to do one on himself, he’d end up eating all that fur between his toes.
Oh my, Frankie is a looker isn't he, if I were a cat…Your black shoulder bag looks familiar?! Did you add red tassels? Like itRed and turquoise rocks.
Great post – I am loving that limedrop used a cat and it was great to see some of the pop colors in the audience instead of just the runway!!
great post Leeyong – but reckon you can crop my exhausted face out of the brooch one – eek! XXXX
Great catch-up post … I loved your photos, made me feel all part of the action. YAY for front rows! … but BOO to kitty manicures! š
So glad I'm finally caught up on your blog! And I would have been just as jealous as you of that cat! What a beauty.
