True Self at the GPO

As you’d know, I’m a big fan of fundraisers in disguise. So the current True Self exhibition at Melbourne’s GPO is right up my alley. It’s on until June 24 and is raising money for Fitted for Work, an organisation that prepares disadvantaged women to (re-)enter the workforce, both emotionally and wardrobe-wise. I was lucky enough to attend on opening night last week with a few workmates – love getting to see art and enjoy a canape or two (or ten!).

The exhibition is a collaborative one that also makes use of that old-school institution – the postal system.

One artist starts off the artwork and then posts it to another, who adds their touches to complete it.

All the artworks are only $200, with proceeds to Fitted for Work. My workmate bought this one… Alice with a tail!

I love the colours in this piece and the bold lines. And there’s cacti in it, which makes it look kind of Mexican.

I’m not sure how many pieces are still left to purchase as a lot of people did buy things on the opening night, but if you’re in town, it’s definitely worth dropping in to the GPO for a look (and take some funds with you just in case your favourite piece is still available!).
