Green spring clean
Spring is here (although you’d be forgiven for not noticing if you’re in Melbourne) and theoretically, that means spring cleaning. I never seem to have time for a really thorough clean-out, but, as a multi-tasker, this initiative from the Australian Conservation Foundation is certainly tempting me.
Basically, it allows you to post stuff you no longer need online, and if it’s sold, the sale price is donated to ACF. So you get a cleaner house AND you get to donate to a fabulous environmental cause. I’d say that’s a win, wouldn’t you?
This initiative is still kind of in the testing stages as far as I can tell, but if all goes well it will be retained as a permanent source of revenue for the ACF. Did I mention that you are, of course, also able to BUY items listed, and there are quite a few lovely vintage items up there right now? My advice is to CLEAN OUT YOUR CUPBOARDS FIRST – and then restock them with fabulous secondhand online finds, hehe…

日本では家庭の大掃除は大体年末に行うけれど、こちらではspring cleaning (春の掃除)という表現があって、冬の終わりに掃除をする人が多い。掃除すると要らなくなったものが沢山でますよね？それで、オーストラリアの自然を保護する団体Australian Conservation Foundation が面白い資金集め方法を考えたのです。要らなくなったアイテムの写真や詳細をこのサイトにアップして、売られたらその金額が団体に寄付されます。どうせいらない物だから、自分の家を掃除するのと同時に地球にいいことができたらいいと思いませんか？もちろん同じサイトで人の売っているアイテムの中でいいものがあれば、買うことで寄付できるから、家がきれいになったら、ショッピングでもどうぞ！
