Cape of Good Hope
How’s the weather where you are? It’s been pretty hot over here (as you’d expect, in the middle of summer, although being Melbourne, it can be 45 degrees one minute and snowing the next) but that didn’t stop me buying a woollen cape at Savers the other day.
At only $4.99, a normal person wouldn’t have given the purchase a second thought, but not only am I possibly the tightest person ever, I do already have a kimono overcoat in this colour, and my wardrobe is kind of bursting at the seams so much that I have to store stuff in the garage.
I eventually gave in to temptation though – how could I resist the gorgeous coral colour?
Of course I won’t be wearing it until winter, at which time I possibly will be wearing a little more underneath it… but the day I took these photos it was something like 30 degrees… so hopefully you will excuse me!
If you’re liking the idea of a cape, I think it would be really easy to make one out of a light blanket or even a really big pashmina, it’s basically just a rectangle cut vertically to half way, maybe with a little bit of the neck cut for shaping too.
At the risk of sounding even more airheady than usual, don’t clothes look entirely different when they’re in motion?
Apart from having too many clothes already, another reason I had to stop and think a bit before buying this cape was that I didn’t think it looked that great when I was standing in the shop looking at it in the mirror, but once it’s moving around, it’s a whole new story…
It makes me feel like a mix of Wonder Woman, Masai warrior and style queen and nearly makes me wish for winter!
You're nearly selling winter to me… nearly… not quite… I'll just pretend that you're wearing a delicious light cotton watermelon cape…GORGEOUS! Hope you're well hon…
Oooh what a gorgeous color!! Yayy for $5 πhttp://aclosetfashionista.blogspot.com/
It's been wayy too long since I've been to your blog. I always love your comments to death. They're the sweetest! You are absolutely stunning- I'm glad you went for it. The color looks amazing on you!
whooaaa! how cool is that cape! I have never contemplated buying a cape before, but now I am reconsidering.. and what a great colour
Thanks for your comment on my blog ! I love this cape, it's amazing π You're really into recessionista fashion !!
That cape is fantastic – the sense of movement is wonderful, and allows the true personality of the piece to be clearly shown. The colour is amazing too! :)Now you just need it to be cool again so it can make a proper entrance. We've had sunny weather in Brisbane and horrid humidity … I really should move somewhere cool where I can wear coats, tights, and capes all year round! ;)PS. You look gorgeous!! π
Superhero! It looks great as a cape especially in motion but I can imagine you cutting into it and using that wool for something less voluminous. The weather here is like cold porridge π¦
Thanks ladies…I did consider that someone (ie me) should make a summer cape in something lighter, maybe that will be my next project…Clare, you make me laugh… weather like cold porridge…!!And I WAS/am thinking of cutting it down a bit but now I'm not so sure, it's really only the length that doesn't suit me when I'm standing still, not the volume really.
It's luuuuuuvely, and wow! your legs… beyond gorgeous.
What are gorgeous color on you! You are like a modern day red riding hood! And I agree, nice legs!
Honestly say that I like it a lot.Great entry.Adam,http://fashionispartofme.blogspot.com
Beautiful! You have brilliant legs, sorry but everybody else is saying it so I have to agree! My mum has a gorgeous red cape, slightly less coral than this though, and I INTENSELY want to steal it :B
Rocking that cape.
How did I miss this post until you linked to it?!! Agree about the legs and the cape (Nice score!!)! You are too gorgeous!About patterned fabric hiding mistakes nicely…Man I have made SO many on the dress already. The scariest was when I had the iron too hot and melted a little edge on the back of the collar! I got onto it quickly though and peeled it out. Phew! Also love your new earrings! xx
very cute! that's a seriously perfect color on you! glad you pointed out your cape post to me π
Leeyong – AMAZING!! I particularly love the third shot from the bottom; so much so that I think you should frame it. I've a kimono-ish dressing gown in a similar colour and love it so that it's travelled around most of the world with me. So in short, a great buy that I think you'll get lots of wear out of – what value! I look forward to seeing it around the traps in warmer months. Xx
