Gala glamour
Yesterday (day two of Fashion Week) was a day of contrasts – the morning was spent unpacking and then repacking clothes, shoes and accessories from the Fox FM show last night, which is as glamorous as it sounds – ie, not at all! I then raced home to get home and glammed up for the Social Studio gala dinner and fashion show at Fitzroy Town Hall.
I know I gave you a preview of my dress the other day but here’s another pic showing me looking decidedly more relaxed than I was actually getting to the event… I’m a real wuss when it comes to driving and it was the first time I’d driven to Collingwood… AND it was raining AND I hadn’t noticed the road I planned to park in was a no-through road AND I had to walk in heels… whinge, whinge, whinge… anyway I found my table and sat down next to Lou, my Peppermint cohort who had kindly invited me to the evening and was looking extremely happy about the delicious dinner that was being served, as were we all…(several comments were made about wishing we’d brought doggie bags, which is of course the ultimate – and most sophisticated – compliment one can pay about a meal…)
The designs from The Social Studio are getting better and better but unfortunately the same cannot be said of my photography… here are some shots of the fashion show that really do not do the collection or the models justice.
I particularly loved some cute bubble-leg shorts that are cleverly disguised as a skirt…
… and an amazing tie-dyed dress in every colour of the rainbow …
I like this shot which is of course an accident but gives the dress a magical sort of quality like a cloak of invisibility!
The evening was hosted by Lee Lin Chin who is an Australian style icon but she loves her music too and was grooving away while we were talking which explains why she is all blurry in this pic (this time it is obviously not my photography that is to blame!)
She’s wearing a jumper by Junya Watanabe – I knew she must be wearing a Japanese designer but asked her to make sure. You can’t see her earrings but ingeniously they are also silver wire and look like springs so they match the neck detail on the jumper.
There were many other stylish ladies at the event, among them designer Ellie Mucke, the delightful Carly working the retro-glam look (although I’ve just noticed it looks like she has a yellow daisy growing out of her head… it’s actually part of the table decoration behind her… oops…) and the naturally gorgeous Jess.
It was lovely to see so much support for The Social Studio – they are deservedly getting lots of attention and apparently this event was one of the first to sell out for Fashion Week, so I felt very lucky that I even got to go!
Just on an outfit note… as I mentioned the other day, my dress is from a flea market in Paris, and here is a closeup of my shoes which were about $7 from the Salvos… they are by Casadei which is actually a pretty expensive designer brand so I was excited to find them.. they are black suede with a wedge heel in silver and perspex, cool, hey!!? It was the first time I’ve worn them as they’re not exactly the most comfortable shoes in the world…
Also, when I took the outfit shots the other day I thought I would wear this jacket which is a kimono overcoat that I got for $5 at a flea market in Tokyo, but it was freezing so I went with something warmer (did not get shots of it though… anyway just thought I’d put up this shot as I never get to wear this jacket normally!). It matches my earrings … which I’m going to post about at a later date…
great blog – great night – great food – horrid pic of me! xox
