Luang Prabang luxe

Not long ago I wrote about trekking around Luang Prabang – a most satisfying (if sweaty) experience. But there’s a luxury side to this UNESCO-listed city too. I wrote about it here, and took plenty of happy snaps so here are a few “behind the scenes” shots from my research (no, it wasn’t exactly hard work!).

This is the pool area at the beautiful Belmond La Residence Phou VaoLPBelmondDSC_3047

A little way to the left of the pool area is a Little Free Library – a sweet touch at any hotel, let alone one of this calibre! There’s actually a much bigger swapping library at La Residence too, not that I had time to use it as I was kind of busy having a spa treatment 🙂

DSC_3022Once I’d finished some freelance work (yep, as soon as I went on holiday people decided to ask me to do stuff!) there was plenty of lounging around at The Sofitel – both next to the practically-private pool and in my own little courtyard…DSC_2965DSC_2971

And I found KITTENS lounging around at the Luang Say Residence when I had afternoon tea there!!!

It is such an elegant place (I could imagine Poirot taking tea there) so it was kind of hilarious that these kittens and their siblings were running riot in the garden and beguiling all the staff – there was a friendly fight going on over who would get to adopt the cheekiest little grey kitten (not in this shot as she was busy climbing trees) and everyone had to step around these babies who were of course sleeping in the most inconvenient spot on the stairs at the entrance to the lounge.Typical cats – living for free in one of the fanciest places in Luang Prabang! Let me know if you visit and spot them roaming through the gardens, or if you visit/stay at any of the establishments I mentioned in my article, I’d love to hear your experiences of Luang Prabang too.
