Your most important DIY project is you!

This is my favourite look – a red crochet snood is now high on my ever-expanding list of things to DIY.

Ahh yes. So much style inspiration, pinched from fashion’s great eras!

Well, until this happens, that is. Disappointingly for anyone who’s mainly watching for the outfits (me!), Iona falls in love and stops wearing crazy-cool stuff, instead opting for this (which, yes, looks soooo 80s and kind of out-there viewed through our 2013 eyes, but at the time would have just blended in with the crowd). 

Which brings me to my point – why would you change your style for a man? (Or a woman, if you’re that way inclined). If someone is interested in you, they’ll be interested BECAUSE you are you, not because they think you’d look better dressed as someone else! I love experimenting with style as much as anyone (as you no doubt have noticed) but I do it for myself, not for a love interest. You are your own biggest, most important DIY project – don’t sacrifice your style for someone else!

John Hughes監督の映画、知っていますか？ 「素敵な片思い」や「ブレックファスト・クラブ」は何度も見て大好きだけど、「プリティ・イン・ピンク」はなぜか最近まで一回しか見たことがなくてあまり気にならなかったです。でもこの間テレビで見ていたら意見が変わりました。ストーリーというよりも、あるキャラクターのファッションがすご〜く面白いと予め気付きました。それはイオナというクレージーで格好いいスタイルを持つ30代のシングルな女の子です。いろんな時代が彼女のファッションインスピレーションのようで、60年代のルックスはレディーガガが真似したという噂も。こういう風にファッションを毎日楽しむ彼女だけど、映画の最後にはがっかりさせるシーンがあります。新しい彼氏に好かれるために、当時80年代のわりと普通なコーディネートをすることに決めた彼女の態度が私には理解できないのです！だって、本当の愛なら、相手は本当のあなたのことに恋を落ちるはずじゃないですか？だからその素晴らしく面白いファッションセンスをイオナは生かすベキだったと私は思います。恋のためにファッションを変えるなんて嘘みたいで、素直で本物の愛にはなるはずもありません。男のためじゃなくて、自分のためにコーディネートを選ぶべき！
